Music

A specialist Music Teacher gives all classes approximately one hour of music instruction each week. The program is aimed at developing, in all children, the appropriate skills for active participation in music making and appreciation.
This is through a variety of activities, including singing, listening, movement, composition, percussion work and, in the senior grades; recorder studies. Where possible, children are also given the opportunity to perform in the wider community and to view other performers.

Choir
There are 40 students participating in the school Choir. The Choir attend perform at many events throughout the year, including the end of year Presentation evening, Graduation events, Dale Fest and Anzac assemblies.

SIM School of Instrumental Music Program
Instrumental tuition is offered by the Department of Education to more musically able children.

We performed for the Australian Society of Music Education's XXII National Conference at the University of Western Australia. The children's performance was very well received with many accolades passed on to Ms Nicholas afterwards.

Ancient Sands Choir

Willandra Primary School Indigenuous Choir had the opportunity at our school in February 2018 to work with Madjitil Moorna, a community choir which sings and promotes Aboriginal and Torres Strait language songs.  The song "Ancient Sands" was in collaboration with Kobi Morrison, a Bibbulum Marmun, and other non-Indigenous members of the choir.  The song asks the audience to consider their heritage to form the basis of conversations and understanding.

Students joined in singing with other schools on March 21, 2018 for the Ancient Sands Harmony Week Festival at Forrestfield PS. The theme of the festival is centred on communities and all cultures coming together. The festival was coordinated by Madjitil Moorna.  They are a community choir which is independent of politics and religion and is about creating a shared understanding of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples.        The children participated in activities that involve Australian culture and the values of cooperation and harmony.
