Our aim at Willandra Primary School is to ensure that our students fulfil their potential and make a positive contribution to society.       We seek not only the achievement of academic potential but also strive to optimise the social development of students to empower them to maximise their contribution as citizens of the future.

The Values Program at Willandra Primary School is based upon the belief that through support, encouragement and nurturing care shown and experienced at our school, all member s of the school community have the opportunity to grow and be affirmed in their dignity and worth as persons, and develop skills in building personal relationships.

Our Values Program is built upon a set of beliefs:

·         The pursuit of knowledge and commitment to achievement of potential.

·         Self-acceptance and respect of self.

·         Respect and concern for others and their rights.

·         Social and civic responsibilities.

·         Environmental responsibilities.

Our Values underpin policies, strategies and procedures across the school and impacts on all our relationships within the school community.

The Values Program enhances and strengthens our Bullying Prevention Policy (TED Program) and our Managing School Behaviour Policy.

Our Values:

Respect –              I treat others with consideration and regard. I respect other people’s point of view

Cooperation –        I work cooperatively with others and value everyone’s effort.

Courage –              I have the strength and courage to do what is right for me and others.

Perseverance –     I am committed to work hard, be patient and keep trying.

Acceptance –         I accept that we are all different.

Responsibility –     I take responsibility for my own actions and resolve differences in a constructive way.

Kindness –             I care for others and try to understand how they feel.

Honesty –              I am honest, sincere and seek the truth.

Program Implementation

·        During the year we focus on two values per term. At the same time the teachers use every opportunity to reinforce our six other
         values.

·        Teachers discuss the current value with their class and integrate it into their class program. The common language of all values is           consistently used within the classroom.

·        The focus value is shared with parents via the school newsletter.

·       Students are awarded ‘Gotchas’ from all staff members both in the classroom and in the playground for demonstrating behaviour
that epitomizes our values. Students place their ‘Gotcha’ in a box in the classroom. Tickets are brought to every Monday morning           assembly for a prize draw.

·         At the end of each five week period a Value’s Certificate is awarded at a Parent Assembly to one student from each class who
has most consistently demonstrated the current value

·         At the end of each term the Faction with the most ‘Gotchas’ receives a special reward.

·         In addition, Bronze Values’ Certificates are awarded to students who have received three Values’ Certificates; Silver Values’
Certificates are presented to students who have received five Values’ Certificates. Gold Values’ Certificates are presented to
students who have received seven Values’ Certificates.

Students at Willandra strive to demonstrate our values in their day to day behaviour.

Our values provide common ground for discussion with both students and parents when students transgress the boundaries of acceptable behaviour.

Students, staff and parents practice our values and are doing so in their interactions around the school and at home.

As a school community we aspire to speak with one voice for the well-being and positive future of our students, staff and parents.
